Birmingham Airport is an international airport, located southeast of Birmingham city centre. The airport first opened its doors back in 1939 and now carries over 3 million passengers a year through its hallways and runways. Novotel Hotels are a French Franchise. Founded back in 1967, they now have 548 hotels across 63 different countries. Novotel Birmingham Airport offers excellent accommodation compromising of 195 rooms and suites. This hotel is perfect if you are flying out of Birmingham Airport as its just steps away from the terminal.
Our case study outlines the delivery of remedial repairs to the curtain walling for the Novotel Hotel at Birmingham Airport. GR are an approved supplier of Birmingham Airport delivering both airside and apron productive remedial works as required. This external envelope upgrade package was delivered whilst the Hotel remained fully operational. Scheduling the material deliveries and labour whilst operating strictly within a very small compound/footprint required the full attention and extensive experience not to mention skill set of our Midlands Large Works Project Team.
GR were involved in the remedial works for the Novotel Airport in Birmingham. The scope of works included but was not limited to the removal in stages of the entire external envelope consisting of both glass spandrel units and metal painted cladding panels.
New enhanced fire retardant insulation was then introduced to the associated voids and cavities along with the required fire breaks etc. The original spandrels and cladding were then refitted with new engineered bracketry and carrier rails, all designed by the in-house GR Cladding Design Team.
Access for the works was provided via combination of rope abseil technicians, truck- mounted platforms and articulated scissor lifts (with sliding beds).
Fixed ground cordons supported by mobile Ground Marshalls operated below and around the works to fully ensure during these controlled upgrade works the absolute safety of guests our operatives and anyone passing below.
