The work required the removal of the existing identified defective glass units, and the subsequent manufacture of the specialist spandrel panels at our bespoke facility located in Suffolk and installation of new panels and defective DGU’s. The productive works included:
• The provision of specialist glass lifting equipment and IRATA trained rope technicians to complete the replacements.
• Removal and reinstallation of pressure plates and cover caps.
• Ground marshalling and cordoning for job duration was vital as all works needed to be
Spandrel Panel Replacement
Glazing Refurbishment were also required to replace glass spandrel panels to various locations on the hospital's rear elevation, the most challenging of these was between floors eight and nine that required ward & bed isolation with specially constructed window/bay isolation rigs.
Glazing Refurbishment provided the necessary program detail, method statement and risk assessments, alongside the complete removal, procurement, and replacement works to the rear elevation element.
Additional scope included:
• Provision for contract crane lift (above) with vacuum lifters and secondary lifting device.
• Mobile isolation window/bay rigs.
• Road closure, traffic management and ground cordoning for the duration of works.
• Additional insulation backing on the glass panel, which was prepared and cleaned before installation.
Architectural Glazing Survey and Report
As part of the project scope, we were required to build a comprehensive and competitive report for all delivered works. This involved the allocation of a dedicated GR High Level Survey Team, the generation of onsite-grid and schematic drawings supported by a detailed bound/written photographic report which included:
• Quantification of all defective/unsound glass and components replaced
• Detailed health and safety assessments and implications for all the remaining glass, spandrels.
• Budgeted proposals for future remedial works and operations.
Hull Royal Infirmary required GR IRATA Level 3 specialist cleaning technicians to clean, remove, and dispose of pre-existing and generated on-site waste throughout the works program. Our team was required to use rope access to clean glazing where pigeon waste had built up, with pigeon spikes added during the works to prevent future nesting issues.
