Project Summary

Glassbox, Isle of Dogs is a unique glazed cube office facility floating on the River Thames in central London. Like all glazing, overtime age related dilapidation and glass breakages will occur and the Glassbox was no different.

Project Challenges

Glazing Refurbishment were instructed by the client to undertake numerous glass changes and seal servicing to the entire structure. The unique location of the office led the GR Projects Team to utilise a mobile tower crane in order to assist with the removal of the defective glass units and manoeuvre the replacement double glazed units back into the aperture.

The GR Solution

For the works to be conducted with safety at the forefront of the operation, a number of additional safety measures were required to conduct the work. This included secondary safety straps, two way radios, certified ropes and harnesses as well as water buoyancy aids when the glazing operatives were working near the buildings edges.

Upon project completion, our project manager handed the site back to the client and now the building is covered by our insurance backed water ingress guarantee to future-proof our seal servicing and glazing replacements.
